Shops in Worcester Road Great Malvern

Here are some photos of shop fronts in Worcester Road north of Belle Vue Terrace and the car park nearby. They can be used in conjuction with our list of businesses.

Starting from the Post Office, take the steps up to Belle Vue Terrace, crossing the main road at the pelican crossing. Turn right and proceed past W H Smiths to the Unicorn Inn.

Just past the Unicorn Inn take the turning left into St Ann's Road, from where, if you keep going, there is a steep climb onto the Malvern Hills.

Immediately on your left you will find a short stay car park.

A little further up the road, on the right,  you will find The Malvern Book Cooperative and further up still The Red Lion pub incorporating the Thai Connection restaurant.

The Malvern Book Cooperative run by volunteers opened after Beacon Books in Worcester Road closed in 2011. The name of the shop can easily be missed but is stencilled on the left hand window pane (see photo of shop below).

Returning to the main road you will find The Malvern Hills Gallery by the zebra crossing (see photo below). When we first came to  Malvern this was the Midland Electricity Board showroom. Prior to 1900 the building might have housed the Post Office, which was then in Worcester Road.

Proceeding north up the Worcester Road you will pass Philip Laney and Jolly, estate agents before reaching the Bran Tub which stocks a wide range of Health Foods.

Further on there is a Victorian letter box, and above it, Holly Mount United Reform Church which was built as a Congregational church in 1876. The church stands to the south of a large house named Holly Mount (since demolished) where Princess Victoria stayed in 1830. Later in the 1860s Holly Mount briefley housed the school that became Lawnside.

Ahead you will see the long established department store Bray's of Malvern, founded in 1895. The building is though to date from 1865 and its bow front is typical of other local residences of the period, such as Park View.

Further down still you will find Promenade Antiques which featured in the BBC television programme Antiques Road Trip.

(Other shops selling sewing accessories include Gordon Smith's in Church Street, Just So in Barnards Green and The Cotton Reel in Broad Street Worcester which, like the Rohan shop, is not far from the bus station).

Returning back on the other side of the road you will pass a PoundPlus Store where everything is apparently a pound (since closed) and then  a branch of Santander Bank which was once the Abbey National Building Society.

Further down you will reach The Foley Arms Hotel now owned by J D Wetherspoon offering sensibly priced food and accommodation, where you can stop for a bite to eat or a coffee before returning to the Post Office.

Note the hotel no longer has a car park, so if arriving by car please check with the hotel about car parking arrangements.
